In Hong Kong, the 13th Annual Microwave International New Media Arts Festival (13 November - 11 December 2009) brings together emerging creative talent and new media works from international and local artists. The festival was initially launched in 1996 as an annual video art festival produced by Videotage, a video art center in Hong Kong. As the Microwave Festival matured and expanded its focus to include new media art beyond the scope of video art, the festival ultimately became a separate organization in its tenth year. This year's Microwave Festival focuses on the theme Nature Transformer featuring works addressing environmental issues, nature and technology. The program will offer an Opening Concert from England's The Light Sturgeons marking their debut in Asia with a multi-media performance, a series of exhibitions at Hong Kong City Hall and an artists-in-residence exhibition at Langham Place Hotel, a keynote conference exploring the topic Eco-visualizatoin: Combinining art and technology to reduce energy consumption, a screening program, workshops, and more. Visit the Microwave Festival site for details.
